Millworks opened its doors in 1998 at the Peoria location, but it's true beginnings go back 85 years to a sawmill in Pekin. Louis Pesgalia, grandfather of current owner, Rick Butler, became the owner of the sawmill quite literally by accident. He was in the trucking business and when another driver ran into his truck with no money to repair the damage he caused, he traded lumber for the truck. When Louis realized how lucrative the lumber business could be, it wasn’t long before he was in business with his own sawmill.
Thirty years later, Louis’ sons joined him in the business and Rick followed after graduating from college in 1981. He learned the business from the ground up and was responsible for the company’s first venture into the retail business in the mid-80’s-the Woodworkers Shop.
Rick bought the company from his grandfather and uncles and continued to expand the retail and wholesale operations. While lumber and woodworking tools and supplies continued to be popular, demand for hardwood flooring, moulding and doors began to grow as the housing market expanded.
That growth resulted in the first Millworks Store in Peoria. Since then, Millworks has become its own entity at the Pekin location as well. Hardwood flooring has always been the foundation of our offerings and Millworks has been a leader in bringing new products and new trends to the local market.
Millworks philosophy is to provide “Start to Finish” service to our customers. Our designers will work with customers to guide them through the selection process. Because we offer hardwood flooring, engineered and laminate flooring, tile, doors, windows, moulding, stairparts, tin ceilings, mantels and more, we can provide a customer with all they need for a small or large renovation, remodel or new build-AND, we provide installation.
Millworks prides itself on quality products, excellent customer service and years of knowledge and expertise in the hardwood business. These are priceless-but at Millworks we also believe that quality doesn’t have to cost more.
